The University of Minho (UMinho) and the Associação Académica da Universidade do Minho (AAUMinho), once again organize a major international sporting event in the city of Braga. The European University Volleyball Championship will take place from 16th to 23rd July.

The European University Sports Association (EUSA) assigned the organization to the Academic Federation of University Sports (FADU), which relies on the experience of UMinho and AAUMinho for the organization of another international event. The activity is expected to mobilize about 600 participants from various universities in Europe.

After the recent experience in organizing the World University Futsal Championship in 2022, Margarida Isaías, President of AAUMinho and of the Organizing Committee, highlights the “organizational capacity of AAUMinho and SASUM in international competitions”, and the organizing committee “is already working with great commitment and enthusiasm in this challenge so that the European championship can be another successful event". Margarida Isaías underlines the international dimension of the event, once "it is always important to combine sport with internationalization, sharing experiences, realities, cultures, volunteering and social action, at the same time that we take the name of UMinho across borders”.

The administrator of Social Action Services at the University of Minho (SASUM), Alexandra Seixas, hopes that “all participants and student-athletes from the various European universities can have an excellent experience during this week of competition and that they can take away the best memories of UMinho”. Alexandra Seixas also states that “despite the wide experience in international organizations, we will always try to improve at each event and the organization is already working to make this another well-organized and successful competition for all involved”.

After the European Volleyball Championship had already been held at the University of Minho in 2004, the city of Braga will once again, after 19 years, host the biggest European volleyball competition of 2023 during the summer.
