Day 2: Eleven games were played on the first day of the groups phase

The first day of the groups phase counted with 11 games, 7 games in the women’s competition and four games in the men’s competition.

 

The matches started around 9 am, at the UMinho Sports Complex, with the women’s game: University Vasile Alecsandri of Bacau against Hungarian University of Sports Science. The Hungarian team won by 0-3. At the André Soares Sports hall the game for the women’s competition started at 9:30 am, with the University of Valencia against the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. The University of Valencia “took the best” and won by 3-0. At the Lamaçães Sports Hall, the German Sport University Cologne faced the University Fan Noli and the Germany team won by 3-0.

 

Still in the women’s competition, at 11:30 am, at the UMinho Sports Complex, after an intense game, the University of Minho beat the Turin Polytechnic by 3-1. Although the Italian team from Turin lost the game, the University of Bologna by the other side, won against the University of Aveiro by 3-0. The University of Zagreb played at the Lamaçães Sports Hall against Aix-Marseille University and the final result was 3-1. Around 2 pm, the University of Bordeaux lost against the University of Munster by 0-3.

 

The men’s games only started by the afternoon, at 2:30 pm, at the Lamaçães Sports Hall. The Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek lost the game by 0-3 to the West University of Timisoara. The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology played a strong game against the University of Valencia and ended up winning by 3-0.

 

The men’s games continued and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and the University of Wurzburg faced each other in a very disputed game. The winning team was the Polytechnic University of Catalonia by 3-2. The last game of the first day, happened around 7 pm at the UMinho Sports Complex. The University of Minho played against the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences and, after five sets played, the winner was the University of Minho by 3-2.

 

On Tuesday, July 18th, there is going to be a day full of games with 11 matches to play, once again.
