Day 4: Last day of groups phase of women's competition

The third day of the competition started, has usual, early in the morning for the women’s teams. The men’s teams only begun their games in the afternoon. On total, 11 games were played, on July 19th.

 

On the last day of the women’s competition, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology played against the University of Aveiro. The Portuguese team won the game by 0-3, at the UMinho Sports Complex. At the André Soares Sports Hall, the University of Fan Noli disputed a game with the Aix-Marseille University. The French team got out of the field with a victory by 1-3. The Hungarian University of Sports Science confronted the Turin Polytechnic at the Lamaçães Sports Hall. The winner was the Hungarian University, by 3-1.

 

The women’s games continued, and it was time for the University of Bologna to play a game with the University of Valencia. The Italian team took the victory and won by 3-0, at the UMinho Sports Complex. The University of Zagreb followed the example and won to the German Sport University Cologne by 3-0, at the André Soares Sports Hall. The University of Minho lost the game by 0-3 to the University Vasile Alecsandri of Bacau, at the Lamaçães Sports Hall. The University of Bordeaux ended up being the winning team, after five sets played with the University of Porto. The final result was 3-2, at the UMinho Sports Complex.

 

The group phase of the women's competition ended this Wednesday, July 19th. With these results, group A ends with the Hungarian University of Sports and Sciences in first place, University Vasile Alecsandri of Bacau in second, University of Minho in third and Turin Polytechnic in last place. Group B ended with the University of Zagreb on the podium, the German Sport University Cologne in second place, the Aix-Marseille University in third and the University Fan Noli in fourth place.

 

In group C, the University of Bologna won the first place, the University of Valencia the second, the University of Aveiro the third and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology the last place. In group D, the University of Munster conquered the first please, the University of Porto the second and the University of Bordeaux the third and last place.

 

The men's games started by the afternoon, at the Lamaçães Sports Hall, with a match between the University of Valencia and the Nova University of Lisbon, with a score of 3-1. The Western University of Timișoara played against the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, at UMinho Sports Complex, with the final score dictating a 3-0 victory for the Romanian team. The University of Wurzburg won by 3-2 after five sets played with the University of Rostock, at Lamaçães Sports Hall. The Western Norway University of Aplied Sciences played the last match of the day, at UMinho Sports Complex, against the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, with the final result being a 0-3 victory for the Spanish team.

 

This Thursday, July 20th, the quarterfinals of the women's competition begin with matches between the University of Aveiro and Turin Polytechnic, the University of Bordeaux and the University Fan Noli and the University of Minho against the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. The group stage of the men's competition continues until this Friday, July 21th.
