Day 6: 3 and 0 were this Friday’s favourite numbers

This Friday, on the 6th day of the European Universities Volleyball Championship, there were, once again, 11 games played. On July 21st, seven games on the women’s competition and four games on the men’s competition were disputed. The fight for the best place on the competition remains intense, although it’s felt a fair-play spirit every day.

 

The day started early in the morning with the women’s competition, at the UMinho Sports Complex. The match between the Hungarian University of Sports Science and the University of Valencia ended with the Spainsh team’s victory, by 0-3. The Norwegian University of Science and Technology and the University of Aveiro followed the example, at the André Soares Sports Hall. The final result was 0-3, victory for the Portuguese team. At the Lamaçães Sports Hall, happened the same. The Turin Polytechnic lost the game by 0-3, with the Aix-Marseille University. The University of Bologna played a game against the University Vasile Alecsandri of Bacau. The final result smiled to the Italian team, who won by 3-0, at the UMinho Sports Complex.

 

The University of Minho disputed a match with the University of Bordeaux. The Portuguese team lost the game by 0-3, at the André Soares Sports Hall. A game between the University of Zagreb and the University of Porto, at the Lamaçães Sports Hall, dictated the victory of the Croatian team, by 3-0. By the beginning of the afternoon, two Germany teams confronted each other. The University of Munster lost by 0-3 to the German Sport University Cologne.

 

On the men’s competition, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology won the match with Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, by 3-0, at the Lamaçães Sports Hall. The Portuguese team of Nova University of Lisbon disputed a game with the Romanian team of West University of Timisoara. At the UMinho Sports Complex, the final score was 0-3. The University of Rostock and the Western Norway University of Aplied Sciences confronted each other in a game whose final result was 3-0, at the Lamaçães Sports Hall. The last match of the day was between the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and the University of Minho. The winning team was the Spanish team, with a result of 3-1.

 

The groups phase on men’s competition finished this Friday and, with these results, the standings are decided. On group A, the University of Rostock ended in first place, the University of Wurzburg in second, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in third, the University of Minho in fourth and the Western Norway University of Aplied Sciences in fifth and last place.

 

On group B, the West University of Timisoara achieved the first place, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in second, University of Valencia in third, Nova University of Lisbon in fourth and the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek in fifth and last place.

 

On Saturday, July 22nd, women’s teams semifinals, the 5th to 8th places, the 13th to 15th places, the 11th place final and the 9th place final will be disputed. In the men’s competition, the 5th to 8th place, the 9th place final and the semi finals will take place.
